Austen ring owner is Kelly Clarkson
The purchaser of a ring that once belonged to Jane Austen, surprising many when it came up for auction in the summer, has been revealed as Kelly Clarkson.
The pop singer’s acquisition came to light when she was reportedly banned from taking the ring overseas by the British authorities.
The Miss Independent hit-maker purchased the gold and turquoise antique at a sale in the UK in July, but her request to take it back to America was turned down by officials.
She told the Daily Star newspaper in Britain: “I got up at 4am to start bidding on the auction. We put in an export request but I can’t take it out of the UK as they’ve named it a national treasure.”
