New book to mark P&P bicentenary

2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the first publication of Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen’s best-loved novel. To mark this special occasion Hazel Jones and Maggie Lane have written this beautifully illustrated 64-page book looking at the history of the work that Jane Austen called her “darling child”.

To celebrate the bicentenary of the book’s first publication in 1813, Hazel and Maggie investigate the reasons for its popularity and describe the extraordinary history, reception and afterlife of the phenomenon that is Pride and Prejudice

Celebrating Pride and Prejudice: 200 Years of Jane Austen’s Darling Child will be published by Lansdown Media in the autumn price £6.99 (about $12).

Copies will be available at the Jane Austen Festival in Bath (country fayre, September 15) and the Jane Austen Society of North America AGM in Brooklyn, New York (October 4-6).

New issue of Regency World

The new edition of Jane Austen’s Regency World is published this week.

The September/October 2012 issue (No 59) is packed with information, features and pictures. The cover feature is the new production of Mansfield Park that is touring England this autumn. we have an exclusive interview with Colin Blumenau, the director.

 The next issue of Jane Austen’s Regency World magazine goes to press this week, and next week the cover image will be revealed exclusively on this site.

The September/October 2012 issue is a must-read for Janeites around the world, especially in the US, as it contains a preview of this year’s Jane Austen Society of North America AGM.

And on the subject of Janeite gatherings, we speak to some of the regular visitors to the Jane Austen Festival in Bath to find out what draws them back to the city – and the festival – year after year.

Also included is an interview with Colin Blumenau, director of a new stage production of Mansfield Park, which  will be touring the UK this autumn.
